Kampf Schneid- und Wickeltechnik is one of the innovation leaders in 2018

For the 25th time, the TOP 100 competition selected the most innovative mid-sized companies in Germany. Among these innovation leaders this year is Kampf Schneid- und Wickeltechnik GmbH & Co. KG. This was the result of an analysis by the scientific director of TOP 100, Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke. As mentor of TOP 100, Ranga Yogeshwar honors the Wiehl-based company together with Franke and compamedia at the award ceremony in Ludwigsburg on June 29, 2018 as part of the 5. Deutschen Mittelstands-Summit. In the independent selection process, the company was particularly convincing in the categories “climate of innovation” and “innovation success”.

For almost 100 years Kampf Schneid- und Wickeltechnik GmbH & Co. KG develops machines for the production and processing of all kinds of foils and films. The company with headquarters in Wiehl is one of the world’s leading suppliers in this market. The customer base of the top innovator is correspondingly international: 3,500 companies worldwide benefit from KAMPF’s know-how. To supply them, the company maintains several locations in Germany, China, India as well as USA and employs almost 700 people worldwide, around 500 of them in Germany.

“In our industry the innovation cycles are getting shorter and shorter. Standing still means a step backwards,” says managing director Lutz Busch. This is why, the TOP 100-company encourages the creativity of its employees and their willingness to break new ground. In the context of regular idea transfer events, current development topics are presented and discussed. The employees contribute their own topics and suggestions for solutions to these open discussion rounds.

The most recent example of Wiehler’s innovative strength is the integrative software platform “the @vanced”, which enables to monitor the production process in real time – per example easy and convenient via smartphone. KAMPF is thus setting the course for Industry 4.0 and once again positioning itself as a pioneer in its demanding industry.

Second Converting 4.0 Network Meeting

Image: (codencentric AG) Dr. Stephan Witt, COO KAMPF, opens the second Converting 4.0 network meeting at codecentric AG in Solingen

On June 6th and 7th of this year the second KAMPF Converting 4.0 network meeting took place. After the successful kick-off event at KAMPF in mid-November 2017, this time codecentric AG from Solingen hosted the event. codecentric AG is an expert in agile software development and innovative technologies. Approximately 500 employees at 15 European locations work on future solutions in the areas of Big Data, Performance Solutions and other topics. As a partner of the Converting 4.0 network from the very beginning, the company was involved in the development of the integrative KAMPF platform the@vanced.

The invitation to the headquarters of the software developers in Solingen was accepted by participants from more than 40 companies. The evening event offered a good opportunity for the first personal exchange in the special environment of the developers, as well as the possibility to experience concrete examples of digitization. Blockchain, Augmented Reality, smart building control, simulations or Federated Platforms aroused the interest of the participants and got them in the mood for the following day’s event.

After the welcome by the board of codecentric AG Rainer Vehns and the managing director of KAMPF Dr. Stephan Witt, site manager Lars Rückemann led through the day. Maik Krüger, Head of Strategic Product Management KAMPF, after an excursion into the past, present and future, tuned in to the planned Open Space Format. Dr. Donatus Weber, Head of Innovation and Industry 4.0 KAMPF, reported on the latest network activities and outlined an exciting look at digitization based on five theses. Felix Heuer, consultant and cultural architect of Innodrei, answered the question of how digital change can be implemented. In his keynote speech, he spoke about the need to fundamentally change the corporate culture for successful digital change. He presented a framework to identify culture, identify key challenges and contradictions in the organization and establish a new cultural architecture on this basis.

How can open source technologies in the context of industry 4.0 help to simplify communication with programmable logic controllers for plants or machines, increase development speed and reduce effort? Christopher Dutz took the participants into the depths of software development and introduced the PLC4X project.

The Open Space format, moderated by Nils Wloka, Agile Principal Consultant codecentric, served for the interaction of the participants on questions around digitization: How must leadership in digital times be designed? Who owns knowledge gained from data? In addition, there were discussions on platform economies and ideas for further cooperation.

Almost two days of living industry 4.0 guiding principle led to the conclusion that enterprises, which realize the digital change together and in the exchange, will profit faster and lastingly from the advancement.

Consequently, there is a common desire for a third Converting 4.0 network meeting.

Combined LIB competence: KAMPF and Kampf LSF

The first participation in the Battery Show 2018 in Hannover, Europe’s largest trade fair for advanced battery technology, rated the KAMPF team very postiv. From 15 – 17 May 2018, around 350 companies presented numerous design, production and manufacturing solutions for this rapidly changing industry. Visitors learned about battery systems, materials and components for the automotive industry, utilities, renewable energies, power grids, power tools and electronics.

At this international platform, KAMPF presented its latest development for slitting and winding battery separator film, the new BSF Slitter. KAMPF used its more than 10 years of experience in slitting and winding technology for all types of battery separator films to develop this efficient and compact slitter. Furthermore, the interested parties gained insight into the overall competence which KAMPF and Kampf LSF offer the manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries (LIB) in the production and processing of anode and cathode materials as well as battery separator films. We thank our visitors for their interest.

KAMPF convinced at Chinaplas 2018 with smart solutions

The KAMPF team was pleased about the great interest of the numerous international visitors.

The 32nd Chinaplas impressed: an ultra-modern new location, more visitors than ever and future-oriented main topics.

KAMPF focused on solutions, which meet the industry’s demands for increased efficiency and higher throughput in production.
